Yogurt & its benefits

According to Wikipedia, Yogurt is defined as a dairy product which is produced by bacterial fermentation of milk. The bacteria used in this process are known as 'yogurt cultures'. And, the fermentation of lactose by these bacteria produces lactic acid, which will act on milk protein to give yogurt its texture and its characteristics.
*

Cow's milk is the most commonly used but milk from water buffalo, goats, sheep, horses, camels and yaks has also been used in some parts of the world.
*

The initial step to produce yogurt, is to heat up the milk to about 80 °C (176 °F). This is to kill any undesirable bacteria and to denature the milk proteins so that they set together rather than form curds. Then, cools it to about 45 °C (112 °F). The bacteria culture is added and the temperature is maintained for 4 to 7 hours to allow fermentation.

Presently, more and more end-users are consuming yogurt for good health. It has known to be nutritionally rich in protein, calcium, riboflavin, vitamin B6 and vitamin B12. Definitely, much more nutrients as compared to those that are obtained from milk alone. Men and women who are lactose-intolerant can consume yogurt without ill effects because the lactose in the milk has already been converted to glucose and galactose, and partially fermented to lactic acid by the bacterial culture.

However, yogurt contains varying amounts of fat. There is non-fat (0% fat), low-fat (usually 2% fat) and plain, or whole milk yogurt (4% fat). Many believed that frequent consumption of low-fat yogurt can promote weight loss, especially due to the calcium in the yogurt.

In fact, it is rather easy and inexpensive to make yogurt at home. Start by boiling milk. Then, lower its temperature to 112°F (45°C) and then, add a spoonful of store-bought yogurt to a small amount of the milk. Stir it well, and then, add the rest of the warm milk. Keep the whole batch in a warm place for several hours so the yogurt can set. When the yogurt is ready, refrigerate immediately. According to individual's liking, you may add fresh fruit, jam, granola, honey etc.

It is recommended that women who are suffering from yeast infection (especially those with prolonged whitish vaginal discharge) should try to consume yogurt to resolve their problem. Although, it might take time to make yogurt and also quite costly for some families, the end results has always been beneficial. Because of improved lifestyle, yogurt is now been made commercially and they are readily available at all supermarkets.

As such, there is no more excuse for anyone to say that they have no time to prepare it. If you don't have the time, then just drop by any sale outlet to grab one. Good luck and stay healthy !!!!!!!!!

What is meant by Mental Breakdown (Nervous Breakdown) ?

This is a type of mental-related problem which is frequently detected in our today's society, as lifestyles started to get more sophisticated, or our employers get more demanding. This sort of scenario has also started to emerge from homes, which are caused by nagging and extreme temperamental parents, lashing at their children by finding faults with every small thing they did wrong, or right. It is indeed very wrong for them to bring their frustration home from their office and the long lasting victims are their innocent children.

However, a situation of nervous breakdown usually occurs with a person who is faced with intense depression, or anxiety. When this limit is reached, there will be no turning back when the mental level of an individual just broke loose. Nowadays, this sort of incidents happened from the workplaces to the homes, or at public places.
*
Nonetheless, a nervous breakdown can also be defined as an acute emotional, or psychological imbalance, or a total collapse. It is not a medical illness, but rather confined to more of mental related. It generally occurs when a person is experiencing severe depression, or an intense feelings of being out of touch with reality. Often, it is the result of prolonged endurance which are not been properly addressed over a long period of times.
*
A person who is suffering from such a problem will carry symptoms, such as :
*
a) extreme tiredness, or loss of interest in meeting obligations or following instructions;
b) weakness and tensed tissues or muscles;
c) irregular heart beat with severe trembling, or shaking by himself;
d) uncontrollable crying, easily irritated and sometimes, look confused, disoriented;
e) loss of interest in everything and feelings of worthlessness.

Otherwise, there might also be a loss of self-esteem and confidence in oneself, extreme weight loss or weight gain, disrupted sleep patterns and feelings of guilt and despair.

This is a serious psychiatric condition and should not be taken lightly.
*

Thus, when a person is undergoing such a tremendous situation, it generally means he has already reached his 'limit' and it might appears that he is becoming crazy ! He will grasp his hair, or shiver badly while squatting with both arms holding tightly to his 02 feet. He might even go into a frenzy situation with unknown strength, or yelling and crying continuously. This is because, he is at his breaking point and is completely 'stressed out'. It is, as if he is at the 'edge of a cliff', where he could not tolerate anymore. Thus, there is always a limit to everyone and also, a limit to how much one can cope with. Anything that goes beyond, will depend on the intensity of how much a person has already tolerated since Day 1.

Many of us have seen such pitiful person in our lifetime and I believe we have witnessed all types of symptoms, ranging from individual to individual. For the superstitious community, they, sometimes, thought that the said person could have been possessed by some form of evil spirit. Although, it may appear as such, but it is hoped that they will also seek the help of a western doctor too, to find the real truth.

Why do we eat Oysters ?

It all depends on what each individual is looking for. Some said that they are good for your sexual life. However, more importantly, Oyster contains a huge amount of zinc, which is a necessary mineral to boost our immune system and also, great for testosterone production. All humans need testosterone. They said human sperm has 800 times more zinc than our blood.

It is quite difficult to source for zinc in vegetables and fruits. So far, pumpkin seeds are the only known source. But again, one has to consume so much of it, in order to meet the body's requirement. Our human bodies needs zinc. It is vital for the immune system, hormone production and the endocrine system. Should one finds that their energy levels are low, or their sex drive ... one should know what to do !!!!

Unfortunately, it is advisable to eat boiled, or grilled oysters nowadays. Unless, you knew the original source from where the oysters came from, you may eat them raw, from time to time.  In view of all the pollution in the sea because of oil spillage and other toxic contaminations, it is best to cook the oysters to eliminate those troublesome  bacteria.

Otherwise, oysters are also considered as a low-energy-density food. They have few calories and will be a big help to put you off, from your extra weight. Oysters are low in fat and high in protein. They are high in omega-3 fatty acids, potassium, magnesium and vitamin E, which are playing a major role in lowering your blood pressure and reduce your risk of having stroke, or heart attack. Additionally, omega-3 fatty acids can also improve blood cholesterol levels and reduce inflammation and thus, is another huge help to lower your risk of heart, or cardiovascular disease while vitamin E (a superb anti-oxidant) will protect your cell membranes from free-radical damage.

Most people ............. either love eating them, or hate them. But, for those who simply adore eating them, do take note ........ there is always a limit in eating them. Too much of something can also be bad for our health too.

What is a Hand Foot Mouth Disease (HFMD) ?

A new epidermic disease involving the young children has arrived again at our doorstep in Malaysia.

This trend was detected for the last 02 consecutive years and apparently, it has started to come back again at this moment, incurring a fast increase of young children.

The following extract (see below) was taken from a local media (Sarawak Update) advising all clinics and hospitals to be on the alert ..................
[Hand, foot, and mouth disease (HFMD) is a common illness of infants and children, caused by a virus. It most often occurs in children under 10 years old. It is characterized by fever, sores/ulcers in the mouth, and a rash with blisters. The blisters may appear in the mouth, palms of the hands and soles of the feet. The rashes may also appear on buttocks and on the legs and arms. The ulcers in the mouth usually appear on the tongue, the sides of the cheeks, gums or near the throat.

The most common causes of Hand, Foot and Mouth disease are coxsackie virus A16, enterovirus 71 (EV71) and other enteroviruses. The enterovirus group includes polioviruses, coxsackieviruses, echoviruses and other enteroviruses.

HFMD begins with a mild fever, poor appetite, malaise ("feeling sick"), and frequently a sore throat. One or 2 days after the fever begins, painful sores develop in the mouth. They begin as small red spots that blister and then often become ulcers. They are usually located on the tongue, gums, and inside of the cheeks. The skin rash develops over 1 to 2 days with flat or raised red spots, some with blisters on the palms of the hand and the soles of the feet. A person with HFMD may have only the rash or the mouth ulcers.

Hand, foot and mouth disease is usually diagnosed based on a complete history and physical examination of your child. It is generally suspected on the appearance of blister-like rash on hands, feet and mouth in children with a mild febrile illness.

Usually, the doctor can distinguish between HFMD and other causes of mouth sores based on the age of the patient, the pattern of symptoms reported by the patient or parent, and the appearance of the rash and sores on examination. A throat and/or blister swab collected preferably within 2 days of onset of HFMD may be sent to a laboratory to determine which enterovirus caused the illness.

Presently, there is no specific effective antivirul drugs and vaccine available for the treatment of HFMD. Symptomatic treatment is given to provide relief from fever, aches, or pain from the mouth ulcers. Dehydration is a concern because the mouth sores may make it difficult and painful for children to eat and drink. Should their affected children be having fever, the parents are advised to dress their children in light, thin clothing, to do tepid sponging with water (room temperature) as often as necessary, and to expose them under the fan. Taking enough liquids is very important apart from body temperature monitoring.

HFMD occurs mainly in children under 10 years old, but may also occur in adults too. Everyone is at risk of infection, but not everyone who is infected becomes ill. Infants, children, and adolescents are more likely to be susceptible to infection and illness from these viruses, because they are less likely than adults to have antibodies and be immune from previous exposures to them. Infection results in immunity to the specific virus, but a second episode may occur following infection with a different virus belonging to the enterovirus group.

Parents must make sure their children practice a good health care. Wash hand before having food, have shower after play outside and bring your children seek for doctor when they are ill. Be alert at all time in any circumstances and most important make sure our residential are clean].

What type of species is this ?

Happened to come across this strange wild flower while I went jungle trekking with my wife on the 05th of February 2012. This is indeed a strange looking plant which I have never seen before.

Strange enough, there is no smell emitted from the centre stem. I heard about its other variety which will emit a strong stench and also will attract a lot of flies.

I was very fortunate to communicate with a Master Gardener who told me that this plant is also known as "Amorphophallus Bulbifer" and this is a variety which can only be found in a tropical jungle. It is said that the flower will bloom and will usually lasted for a week before it died again. If the plant is properly taken, it might grows up to a height of 6 - 7 feet tall.

Seen and photo taken on 05th Feb 2012

**************************
True enough, the flower withered after 07 days (see below).
It was a sad moment when we saw the condition of the flower.
We even went to pay another visit today, soaked in the rain.

Anyway ..... Go and Rest in Peace until you bloom again !!!

What is Hammertoes, or Mallet toes ?

According to Mayoclinic, it is defined as ...............................

The cause of wearing improper footwear. Shoes that are too tight in the toe box, or shoes that have high heels should be avoided. Wearing shoes of either type can push your toes forward, crowding one, or more of your toes into a space that's not large enough to allow your toes to lie flat inside the shoes.

Hammertoe and mallet toe deformities can also be inherited too, and may also occur even when wearing appropriate footwear. The physical appearance of such toe appears to bend upward in the middle and then, curls down in a hammer-like, or claw-like shape. Your shoes can rub against the raised portion of the toe(s), causing painful corns, or calluses due to frictions. The bottom of the affected toe can press down, creating the mallet-like appearance. Initially, such toes may maintain their flexibility and lie flat when you're not wearing crowded footwear. But as time goes on, the tendons of these toes may contract and tighten, causing your toes to become permanently stiff. Eventually, these affected toes might overlap each other and pushing toward the direction of the big toe. If the pain is too intense (either when wearing shoes, or when walking barefooted), surgery is the only mean to resolve such problem. I had a friend who had his 2nd toe surgically cut-off recently and what a relief when the pain has finallygone, as the other toes were now able to occupy the newly-found empty space.

Merry Christmas to everyone !!!!!!!!!!!!

Time passed without waiting, each day by day. In just a couple of days away, Christmas is up again when everyone is once again busy with all the preparations. Turkeys are been slaughtered for our tables, while families return from afar to reunite. Children too, will be gleaming with joy as they greet their presents with outstretched arms. Many will be getting soft toys (Angry Birds will be top on the list this year), while the richer family will get all the high-tech gadgets, such as Iphone, Ipad and Ipod etc.

Yet, in some corners, there will still be poor and under-priviledged children, hungry and out in the cold. Lets not forget about them and teach our children to fork out whatever they have .... to share the warmth and love on this special occasion too.

Merry Christmas to Everyone !!!!
[I would like to share with everyone
a nice video clip which I have come across]

[This is cool ... it looks like the house is jumping with real joy. View in full screen by clicking the box in right bottom with red arrows of You-Tube screen.

Turn up the volume (the best is towards the ending part).

As the story goes, the guy that owns this house, lives north of Cincinnati, Ohio. Police were constantly being called for traffic jams and accidents in the neighborhood, because of him. So, they asked him to shut it down during certain hours.  Instead, he started charging by car load to pay off duty police to be there. The guy is supposedly a real computer GEEK]

2012 Chinese Horoscope - Year of The Dragon

The Chinese race are particularly curious, in knowing what their own animal zodiac sign will bring for them in each new lunar year. Apparently, Year 2012 will be the Year of The Dragon. This is a cultural belief which is going on for decades.

For some families, especially those who are business-minded, they are even more eager to invite the arrival of new 'dragon' siblings during that year, and better still if the newly born is a boy.

In every new lunar year, the Chinese also believes that each ruling animal for that year will have a governing force on certain animal, or animals. For Year 2012, those born under the 'dog' sign is said to be most badly affected and will have to be particularly watchful on their career & family life, wealth, luck and especially, their health. Believe it or not, its up to you. As for me, I prefer to avoid 'wherever' I can !!!

http://www.chinesefortunecalendar.com/2012/2012Zodiac.htm

However, for those who wishes to know at what is in store for you next year, you may refer to your own horoscopes from the above 'URL', provided.

For those, who are of other races, and if you are curious too, just refer your year of birth (which will be shown below each of the 12 animals) and then, click on the animal to find out the rest.

Thymus Gland & functions

According to www.buzzle.com, the Thymus Gland was defined as .........
*

*
It is an endocrine gland that is located in the neck area. The main thymus gland function is to produce T-cells, also known as T-lymphocytes.

The thymus gland, which is shaped like a pyramid, is a specialized organ of the human immune system. It is also one of the important glands in the human body. It is a pinkish gray colored organ that is situated in the upper thoracic region, under the sternum or the breast bone. The thymus gland is made up of two lobes, that are divided into lobules by a septum or wall. These lobules are called thymic lobules and are enclosed in a capsule. The thymus has two parts - the central medulla and the peripheral cortex. In newborn babies, this lymphoid is larger as compared to an adult. The thymus gland continues to grow till puberty and then it undergoes involution, which is a process where the thymus starts a reverse procedure and begins to shrink in size. The thymus gland in an elderly individual becomes just a bit of adipose (or fat) and connective tissues. Let's now learn about the thymus gland function.

Functions

The thymus gland is very active, during the childhood years. It plays a crucial role in developing and improving a child's immunity system. The main function of the thymus gland is to produce and process lymphocytes or T-cells (where 'T' stands for thymus). Lymphocytes are white blood cells, which are also known as leukocytes. After the white blood cells mature, they leave the thymus gland and get settled in the spleen and the lymph nodes, where a fresh batch of T-cells is produced. These white blood cells are the body's immunity system and protect the body by producing antibodies that stop the invasion of foreign agents, bacteria and viruses. These cells also ensure the proper functioning of the body system and look after the wear and tear of the organs. Another function of thymus gland is to prevent the abnormal growth of cells, that may lead to cancer. The T lymphocytes travel from the bone marrow to the thymus gland where they remain till they get activated. After maturity, the lymphocytes enter the blood stream from where they travel to other lymphatic organs and provide defense mechanism against diseases. The thymus gland also produces a hormone called thymosin, which stimulates the T-cells in the other lymphatic organs to mature. This gland also produces another hormone called thymopoietin, which is protein present in the mRNA (messenger RNA) and is encoded by the TMPO gene.

In some cases, the thymus gland tends to become under-active. The individual may have a weak immunity system and be prone to many infections and allergies. These infections can be chronic and may prolong for a long time. When there is a lack of T-cells in the body, it can lead to immunodeficiency diseases. The person suffering from immunodeficiency diseases may show symptoms like extreme sweating, puffiness or soreness of the throat, swelling in the glands and depression. Malnutrition and a deficiency of protein, from an early age, in the diet can lead to the slow or limited growth of the thymus, thus impairing the normal functioning of the lymphocytes. Thus ensure that your child eats a well-balanced meal and also has the right amount of essential nutrients, which can also be given in the form of supplements.

During neonatal and preadolescent stages, the thymus is large and is one of the mist active glands in the human body. But as the individual grows older, the thymus gland shrinks and is replaced by the fat (or adipose) tissue. To ensure the healthy functioning of this vital gland and prevent any disorders, a routine body analysis is essential.

*********************************

Thymus Cancer

There are two main kinds of cancer that can develop in the thymus. A thymoma is a tumor in which the cancerous cells look very similar to those of normal thymus tissue. Thymic carcinomas, on the other hand, have cells that do not resemble thymus cells. Thymic carcinomas are particularly dangerous because they grow more rapidly and are more likely to spread to other tissues. Thymomas are associated with autoimmune diseases in which the immune system attacks healthy tissue. Both thymomas and thymic carcinomas can be present without causing any symptoms. When cancer of the thymus gland does cause symptoms, it can lead to a cough and chest pain.

What is Myocarditis ?

Often, we heard of young patients collapsing when they are involved in sports activities and the end-result sometimes have been critical and even life threatening. Many have even died before they get any immediate medical attention.

Undoubtedly, this health problem is often experienced by those who are having respiratory problems such as Asthma, Pneumonia, or when he/she is weak after a prolonged sickness.
****************************

[However, accordingly to www.patient.co.uk, they explained it as ......]
*
Myocarditis means inflammation of the myocardium. The myocardium is the heart muscle. Myocarditis can affect anyone and occur at any age. There are various causes. Many are mild and some are serious. Causes include the followings :

Viral infection
*
Many types of viral infection can affect several parts of the body, including the heart muscle. Myocarditis may develop at the same time as, or more often just after, a viral throat or chest infection. The body's immune system can clear many types of virus. This means that many cases of viral myocarditis go away on their own within a week, or so.

In the UK, the most common infections causing myocarditis are viruses called Coxsackie B and adenovirus. Other viruses which sometimes cause myocarditis include : echoviruses, influenza (flu), Epstein-Barr virus (glandular fever), rubella (german measles virus), varicella (chickenpox virus), mumps, measles, parvoviruses, yellow fever, dengue fever, polio, rabies and the viruses that cause hepatitis A and C.

Sometimes, the inflammation in the heart lasts longer than other features of the infection. The virus may have gone but the immune system may over-react and cause inflammation which persists for a time in the heart.

Unknown cause
(idiopathic myocarditis)
*
In many people with myocarditis, the cause is not found. However, for the majority of these people, it is likely to be caused by a virus that could not be confirmed by a test.

What are the symptoms of myocarditis ?

The symptoms depend on the cause and severity of the inflammation. Many people with viral myocarditis do not have any heart-related symptoms. The heart inflammation may be suspected by some changes on an electrocardiogram (ECG). Symptoms include :
  • Chest pain.
  • Fever (raised temperature).
  • A fast heartbeat - faster than usual for a normal fever.
  • An irregular heartbeat.
  • Tiredness.
  • Shortness of breath.

What are the possible complications ?

Complications may develop if the inflammation damages the heart muscle, or damages the fibres that conduct the electrical impulses in the heart. Complications develop quickly in some cases following acute (sudden-onset) symptoms listed above. Some cases of myocarditis develop gradually (such as in Chagas' disease) and have no acute symptoms. It may be that the complications are the first indication that you have had myocarditis in the past.

Possible complications include :

  • Sudden loss of consciousness (syncope).
  • Cardiac arrhythmias (abnormally fast, slow or irregular heartbeats).
  • Heart failure which can cause shortness of breath, swelling of the legs and tiredness. (See separate leaflet called 'Heart Failure'.)

How is myocarditis diagnosed ?

Your symptoms are likely to lead your doctor to make the possible diagnosis of myocarditis. An ECG test may be done. This is a tracing of the electrical activity of the heart. A chest X-ray may show that your heart is larger than normal. It is also likely you will have some blood tests to test for some of the viruses that can cause myocarditis. An echocardiogram (ultrasound scan of the heart) may also be arranged.

Some people need to have an endomyocardial biopsy. This involves taking a very small tissue sample of the heart to investigate for the cause of myocarditis. Newer tests which are more sensitive at diagnosing some of the viruses are currently being developed.

What is the treatment of myocarditis ?

The treatment of myocarditis will depend on the cause and severity of your myocarditis. Bed rest is usually recommended at the onset of myocarditis and athletic activities should be avoided for six months to avoid putting undue strain on the heart muscle. Painkillers will help to ease chest pain and fever.

There is no treatment that will cure a virus infection. However, for most people with viral myocarditis, the virus clears away on its own without any treatment, often within a week, or so.

In the past, the use of steroids has been tried. However, there are no clinical studies which demonstrate steroids as being beneficial other than for giant-cell myocarditis. Different treatments for myocarditis are currently being investigated in other clinical studies.

For the more uncommon causes, or if complications develop, a range of treatments may be needed. For example :

  • Medication to treat heart failure, or irregular heartbeats.
  • A pacemaker, if certain irregular heart rhythms develop.
  • Antibiotics, if the cause of the myocarditis is a bacterial infection.
  • Steroid medication, if the cause is giant-cell myocarditis.
  • Stopping alcohol, if alcohol is the cause.

What is the prognosis (outlook) ?

In most cases of viral myocarditis, the illness goes away on its own and there are no complications. Symptoms may last only a few days or weeks. However, some types of viral infection are more serious and can cause more severe or persistent inflammation and complications.

Complications are more likely with the more uncommon causes of myocarditis. Sometimes the inflammation clears but the heart is left with some permanent damage and you may be left with a degree of heart failure which may require long-term medication.

In some cases, the inflammation and heart damage are so severe that the only treatment option is a heart transplant.

Myocarditis is fatal in some cases. In some cases, death occurs some time after the diagnosis is made, if the condition gets worse and becomes unresponsive to treatment. Also, some cases of sudden death in a previously healthy person are due to an acute myocarditis, that develops rapidly.

Sabah Snake Grass (Clinacanthus Nutans) - [Update]

This is a follow-up on my earlier article on Sabah Snake Grass at http://greensanctuary56.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html

This grass is now grown in my own backyard, just as a past-time activity and they are not for commercial purpose. Indeed, it's more interesting to see them growing up, from small shoots to grown up plant.

Plucking them for consumption is easy. But it will take quite some time to grow back to a reasonable height again (before the next harvest). Those matured plants shown below, are around 3 months old.

This plant needs good sunlight and abundance of moisture. They need food too. Organic fertilizer such as 'compost' is still the best choice although it is quite expensive. I also added the residue of fruits (after blending) from time to time, including residue from yellow beans (after making tofu drink) etc. Try not to use inorganic fertilizer such as chicken dung, or goat's dungs, or even processed fetilizers.

Nevertheless, here are some basic steps when planting them :

Harvest the stalks from the mother plant

Cut up each stalk into stems. Always leave their
'nodes' for the young plants to emerge
later

Plant about 3 - 4 stems in each plastic bag
(if you are planning to reproduce them).
Did you see the young plants emerging from
the nodes ?

After 30 - 45 days of attention

Eventually ..... after 2 - 3 months

Before consumption, always wash them thoroughly
before blending, particularly those bought from
outside sources. This is to avoid sickness due to

E.Coli bacteria, if inorganic fertilizers have been
used, since they are eaten raw. Skin of your green
apple(s) have to sliced too, when added.

Drink within 5 minutes after processing (to avoid
loss of fresh nutrients) and for those who has
gastric, or any stomach problem, always drink
it after food.

For those who is scared of coldness, or having a
weak stomach, you may add a few slices of
ginger to be blended together. The later will
assist to provide a warming effect

Thanks to a generous contributor. I was given this recommended guidelines for end-users to follow :

Stage 1 : 30 leaves daily
Stage 2 : 50 leaves daily
Stage 3 : 100 leaves daily
Stage 4 : 200 leaves daily (100 leaves at each time)
Critical stage : 300 leaves daily (100 leaves at each time)

For Kidney patients

Those not yet dialysis :

120 leaves mix with green apple and cold water, after blend, filter and consume, once daily

Those dialysis once a week :
150 leaves

Those dialysis twice a week :
200 leaves

Those dialysis three times a week :
250 leaves

It is best to consume between 3pm-4pm

Recommended methods of preparation

*
1) Pour half cup of clean water in a blender
2) Add a quarter of lemon or half a lime (lemon preferred to avoid gastritis)
3) Wash the required fresh SSG leaves and put them into the blender
4) Peel a green apple and remove the core/seeds and cut into quarter and blend
5) Blend and drink immediately but SLOWLY within 5 minutes

Recommended pointers
*
1) Since herbal is very “cooling” especially for women, you may add a few slices ginger and blend together.
2) Do not wash SSG unless you are going to consume it. Keep in container that does not retain water.
3) It is recommended to chew a few leaves first to let the brain processes what we are consuming. This helps to avoid bloated stomach if the blended juice are swallowed or gulped quickly. This will also help to increase better absorption as the body can release the proper enzyme.
4) Do not consume 2 days before and after and during chemotherapy or radiology.
5) Do not consume together with other herbs.

Recommended food to avoid
  1. Sugar & sugary products; Dairy Products and Bird's Nest;
  2. Honey; Kembong fish especially Sting Ray;
  3. 7 angled fish; Chicken and Duck meat; Yam;
  4. Glutinous Rice; Margarine and Durians;
  5. Ginseng and other rejuvenating Herbs.
[Dairy products contain mucus that provides a conducive environment for cancer cells to grow]

    Note  :

There is a supplier now, who claimed she has begun to fill SSG (after grounded into powder form) into capsules for sale, to oversea users. This is a good start, as it will be able to help many suffering patients from all over the World.

Let's pray that this new found herbs can really help a lot and lots of people.

What is so yummy about Eggplant (or Brinjal) ?

    [According to www.livestrong.com]
The eggplant is part of the nightshade family in the plant kingdom, a distant cousin to bell pepper, tomato and potato. It is egg-shaped and may be colored a rich black-purple or white, and has a thick skin. Commonly referred to as a vegetable, the eggplant is actually a fruit, and may grow anywhere from two inches to a foot in length. Eggplants are indigenous to Asia and the Amazon Rainforest, as well as other parts of the world.

Eggplant, of course, is edible and featured in many delicious recipes. It may be fried, grilled, baked, sauteed, and even broiled.

Common varieties of eggplant range from dark purple to white in color, but all of them provide nutrients that can benefit your heart. Low in calories, eggplant contains potassium and fiber, which contribute to healthy blood pressure and cholesterol levels. A diet rich in vegetables such as eggplant may help you control your weight, which reduces your risk of heart disease.
Why it is so good ?

    Chlorogenic Acid

Chlorogenic acid is a plant compound that is known for its high antioxidant activity. Researchers have found chlorogenic acid to be the dominant antioxidant compound in eggplant. This is significant because chlorogenic acid has a great capacity to fight free radicals, and is also able to lower LDL (bad) cholesterol. Chlorogenic acid is also antimutagenic, which means it can protect cells from mutating into cancer cells; and it is also antiviral.

    Nasunin

Nasunin is an antioxidant compound found in the skin of eggplant. The nasunin in eggplant has antiangiogenic abilities. When something is angiogenic, it stimulates new growth of blood vessels and blood supply. While that sounds like it could be a good thing, when it comes to cancer, it is not. Cancerous cells can gain angiogenesis ability, which means they can develop a means to increase their own blood supply, which can cause a cancerous mass or tumor to grow rather quickly. Nasunin in eggplant has the ability to prevent angiogenesis from occurring. So, do eat the skin.

    Fiber, Vitamins and Minerals

Eggplant is an excellent source of good-for-heart dietary fiber, which can help protect against colon cancer and keeps the digestive system regular. The vitamins in eggplant consist primarily of vitamin A (in the form of beta-carotene), B vitamins, folate and vitamin C. Eggplant is also rich in minerals, boasting a large quantity of potassium, magnesium, calcium and phosphorous.

    WEIGHT-CONTROL POTENTIAL
With no fat and low calories, using eggplant in lieu of higher-calorie pasta or rice or as a side dish can help you eat fewer calories while still enjoying satisfying portions. Do note however that sauteed and fried eggplant tend to have a significantly-higher number of calories than grilled, roasted or boiled varieties. Eggplant acts like a sponge and soaks up oil.  Do add grilled eggplant to green salads, sandwiches and stews. It is also nice with curry.

The plant reaches about 3-4 feet tall in quick time and bears many bright fruits. Each fruit has smooth, glossy skin. Internally, it features off-white color pulp with numerous centrally arranged small, soft seeds. Fruits are generally harvested when they reach maturity but short of full stage ripeness.

    Health benefits of Eggplant

    • Eggplant is very low in calories and fats but rich in soluble fiber content. 100 g provides just 24 calories but contributes about 9% of RDA of fiber.

    • Research studies at the Institute of Biology of São Paulo State University, Brazil showed that eggplant is effective in the treatment of high blood cholesterol.

    • It contains good amounts of many essential B-complex groups of vitamins such as pantothenic acid (vitamin B5), pyridoxine (vitamin B6) and thiamin (vitamin B1), niacin (B3). These vitamins are essential in the sense that body requires them from external sources to replenish and required for fat, protein and carbohydrates metabolism.

    • It is also good source of minerals like manganese, copper, iron and potassium. Manganese is used as a co-factor for the antioxidant enzyme, superoxide dismutase. Potassium is an important intracellular electrolyte helps counter the hypertension effects of sodium.

    • The peel or skin (deep blue/purple varieties) of aubergine has significant amounts of phenolic flavonoid phyto-chemicals called anthocyanins. Scientific studies have shown that these anti-oxidants have potential health effects against cancer, aging, inflammation, and neurological diseases.

    Health problem known as PICA

Accordingly to an explanation by Wikipedia ........... Pica is a medical disorder, characterized by an appetite for substances largely non-nutritive (e.g., metal, clay, coal, sand, dirt, soil, feces, chalk, pens and pencils, paper, batteries, spoons, toothbrushes, soap, mucus, latex gloves, ash, gum, lip balm, tacks and other office supplies, etc.)

The name of the condition originates from the Latin word for magpie, a bird that is reputed to eat almost anything. Pica is seen in all ages, particularly in pregnant women, small children, and those with developmental disabilities.

Pica is more common in women and children. Pica in children (usually only in young children, or children with autism, or another mental or developmental disorder) may be dangerous. Children eating painted plaster containing lead may suffer brain damage from lead poisoning. There is a similar risk from eating dirt near roads that existed prior to the phaseout of tetra-ethyl lead in petrol (in some countries), or prior to the cessation of the use of contaminated oil (either used, or containing toxic PCBs, or dioxin) to settle dust. In addition to poisoning, there is also a much greater risk of gastro-intestinal obstruction, or tearing in the stomach. Another risk of dirt-eating is the possible ingestion of animal feces and accompanying parasites. Pica can also be found in animals and is most commonly found in dogs.

    Causes

Research that has been done on the causes of pica suggests that such disorder is a specific appetite caused by mineral deficiency in many cases, such as iron deficiency, which sometimes is a result of celiac disease, or hookworm infection. Often the substance eaten by someone with pica contains the mineral in which that individual is deficient. More recently, cases of pica have been tied to the obsessive–compulsive spectrum, and there is a move to consider OCD in the etiology of pica; however, pica is currently recognized as a mental disorder by the widely used Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. Sensory, physiological, cultural and psychosocial perspectives have also been used by some to explain the causation of pica.
    *
It has been proposed that mental-health conditions, such as obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) and schizophrenia, can sometimes cause pica. It has been suggested that stress associated with traumatic events is linked to pica disorder. Some of the traumatic events common in individuals with pica include maternal deprivation, parental separation or neglect, child abuse, disorganized family structure and poor parent-child interaction.

Unlike in humans, pica in dogs, or cats may be a sign of immune-mediated hemolytic anemia, especially when it involves eating substances such as tile grout, concrete dust and sand.

    Treatment

Treatment for pica is based on the category of patient (e.g. child, developmentally disabled, pregnant or psychotic) and may emphasize psychosocial, environmental and family-guidance approaches. An initial approach often involves screening for and, if necessary, treating any mineral deficiencies or other comorbid conditions. For pica that appears to be of psychotic etiology, therapy and medication such as SSRIs have been used successfully. However previous reports have cautioned against the use of medication until all non-psychotic etiologies have been ruled out.
    *
Some medications may be helpful in reducing the abnormal eating behaviour if pica occurs in the course of a developmental disorder such as mental retardation or pervasive developmental disorder . These medications enhance dopaminergic functioning, which is believed to be associated with the occurrence of pica. Usually after pregnant women give birth pica subsides.
    *
Zinc was successful at treating pica in a study of Chinese preschool children. Behaviour-based treatment options can be useful for developmentally disabled and mentally retarded individuals with pica. These may involve associating negative consequences with eating non-food items or good consequences with normal behaviour and may be contingent on pica being attempted or initiated regardless of a pica attempt. A recent study classified nine such classes of behavioural intervention :
    • Presentation of attention, food or toys, not contingent on pica being attempted
    • Differential reinforcement, with positive reinforcement if pica is not attempted and consequences if pica is attempted
    • Discrimination training between edible and inedible items, with negative consequences if pica is attempted
    • Visual screening, with eyes covered for a short time after pica is attempted
      *
    • Aversive presentation, contingent on pica being attempted :
      • oral taste (e.g. lemon)
      • smell sensation (e.g. ammonia)
      • physical sensation (e.g. water mist in face)
      *
      • Physical restraint :
        • self-protection devices that prohibit placement of objects in the mouth
        • brief restraint contingent on pica being attempted
        *
        • Time-out contingent on pica being attempted
        • Overcorrection, with attempted pica resulting in required washing of self, disposal of nonedible objects and chore-based punishment
        • Negative practice (non-edible object held against patient's mouth without allowing ingestion)

        What is Cretinine ?

Many of us are still not fully aware what this item is ..... and how serious it could be, if left unattended without proper medical attention.

When we goes for our health examination by the laboratory, this item is often included and it will be measured from the urine. When the level is too high, it would mean that the kidneys' function is facing problem and should the problem becomes critical, ones may even need to undergo renal dialysis to resolve it. Creatine is stored mostly in our muscles' system and when, ones goes for vigorous exercises, this item will be flushed out. Of course, the level measured for man is higher than the level for woman ... because the former has more muscles in their body.

        As MedicineNet.Com explains .........

Creatinine is a chemical waste molecule that is generated from muscle metabolism. Creatinine is produced from creatine, a molecule of major importance for energy production in muscles. Approximately 2% of the body's creatine is converted to creatinine every day. Creatinine is transported through the bloodstream to the kidneys. The kidneys filter out most of the creatinine and dispose of it in the urine.

Because the muscle mass in the body is relatively constant from day to day, the creatinine level in the blood normally remains essentially unchanged on a daily basis.

Why is it important to check blood Creatinine levels ?

The kidneys maintain the blood creatinine in a normal range. Creatinine has been found to be a fairly reliable indicator of kidney function.

As the kidneys become impaired for any reason, the creatinine level in the blood will rise due to poor clearance by the kidneys. Abnormally high levels of creatinine thus warn of possible malfunction or failure of the kidneys. It is for this reason that standard blood tests routinely check the amount of creatinine in the blood. A more precise measure of the kidney function can be estimated by calculating how much creatinine is cleared from the body by the kidneys and it is referred to creatinine clearance.

What are "normal" blood creatinine levels ?

Normal levels of creatinine in the blood are approximately 0.6 to 1.2 milligrams (mg) per deciliter (dl) in adult males and 0.5 to 1.1 milligrams per deciliter in adult females.

Muscular young or middle-aged adults may have more creatinine in their blood than the norm for the general population. Elderly persons, on the other hand, may have less creatinine in their blood than the norm. Infants have normal levels of about 0.2 or more, depending on their muscle development. In people with malnutrition, severe weight loss, and long standing illnesses the muscle mass tends to diminish over time and, therefore, their creatinine level may be lower than expected for their age.

A person with only one kidney may have a normal level of about 1.8 or 1.9. Creatinine levels that reach 2.0 or more in babies and 10.0 or more in adults may indicate severe kidney impairment and the need for a dialysis machine to remove wastes from the blood.

What are the reasons for elevated blood creatinine ?

Any condition that impairs the function of the kidneys will probably raise the creatinine level in the blood. It is important to recognize whether the process leading to kidney dysfunction (kidney failure, azotemia) is longstanding or recent.

The most common causes of longstanding kidney disease in adults are high blood pressure and diabetes mellitus. Certain drugs can sometimes cause abnormally elevated creatinine levels. Serum creatinine can also transiently rise after ingestion of large amount of dietary meat.

Are there any symptoms associated with elevated blood creatinine levels ?

The symptoms of kidney dysfunction (renal insufficiency) vary widely. Some people may have a incidental finding of severe kidney disease and elevated creatinine on routine blood work without having any symptoms at all. In others, depending on the cause of problem, many different symptoms may be present including :
        • feeling dehydrated,
        • fatigue,
        • shortness of breath, and
        • confusion
